Dialogue Night was:
  • a unique opportunity for people all across the Euro-Mediterranean region to unite together in a major event for the promotion of dialogue
  • intercultural events, concerts and food festivals taking place in synchronization in cities and towns across the Mediterranean
  • civil society groups and the wider public engaged in debate and discussion on issues related to coexistence in the region
Dialogue Night was a trans-national event bringing people together for the promotion of coexistence in the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Why? In recent years the people of the Euro-Mediterranean region have been witness to conflict and political crisis. Dialogue Night connected together civil society groups working for dialogue and the wider public, to build on the common cultural heritage of the region as a cross-road of civilizations.

On the evening of the 22nd May 2008 major events and actions took place in towns and cities on both shores of the Mediterranean including Alexandria, Barcelona, Beirut and Rabat.

The events ranged in size and thematic, from food festivals with migrant communities to music concerts open to the general public, but all included a dimension of public debate and discussion on issues related to coexistence in the region.

The Night was timed to take place exactly one week before decision-makers descend on Athens for the Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting on Culture and outcomes of the public debate will be presented to the governments of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.
