introducing "wishes" in school

matching the signs

On 3.4.08 we introduced the action “wishes” to all pupils and teachers of Staatliche Grundschule Erich-Kästner in Pössneck.

And this is what we did:
1. Explain who the UN is.
2. Explain the UN-Millennium development-goals, with focus on environment, primary school education for all children, accessibility of drinking water worldwide, reduction of poverty and hunger.
3. Ask the pupils to find out: Where are the five continents, where are the different oceans and put the right name-signs on the world map. We had painted the map on a thick cloth.
4. Ask the pupils to find out: Where is Mexico, Zimbabwe, Germany, India and Papua-New guinea and to put the right name-signs on the world map. And also match the flags with the countries.
5. They drew lots, for the country they would work on.
6. As a sweet “reward” we had brought gumdrops, shaped like letters and numbers.
Like this the pupils had an exciting beginning of the action and where able to understand, what it is all about. They thanked for the interesting lesson and are curious about the follow-up.
