THOUGHTS FOR DIALOGUE
By atelier culture
Créé 05/06/2008 - 11:47

Thoughts projected on the wall in Birgu. [1]

Two workshops will be organised for youths, aged 13 – 16 and 17 – 21 respectively. These youths hailing from the different communities in Malta will be stimulated to reflect on their thoughts of what intercultural dialogue means to them and their experience of it in their daily life. They will collaborate in order to produce their own personal expression, in the form of brief poetry or other forms of writing, of their reflection and experience.

The ‘words’ they produce will then be transformed into an installation which will be projected during specific cultural events till the end of 2008.

The first event will take place on the 22nd May, during the Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue Night, in Birgu.

These ‘words’ for Dialogue will alternate periodically during the various events held throughout the year, in order to convey the thoughts of all the youths who would have participated in the workshop.

Island solitude by George Zammit Montebello [4]

Soumis par eleonora [6] le mer, 25/06/2008 - 09:57.

A small island solitude,
Cought between two giant rocks,
Centuries of cultural control,
Centuries of cultural rebellion

So many languages form our own,
So many paths form our way,
A prism of many colours,
That struggles to be its own.

Though we are full of prejudice,
We all know the same,
It may be spoken in different languages
It still means the same.

Building bridges... [13]

We live on an island; a small island
Yet an important one.
Between Europe and Africa,
An ideal foundation for a bridge of understanding
Between the cultures of both continents.

Yet when these cultures arrive
In the form of different people,
With different skins and different languages,
We hold back,
Scared of what these cultures might do;
